MACBETH, LONG ANSWERS

4. What did Malcolm and Donalbain do when they heard of the murder? Why was Banquo killed and what happened to his son? What happened to Macbeth in the banquet?

When it was discovered that Duncan was murdered, his two sons fled immediately. Malcolm, the elder son fled to England while Donalbain, the younger fled to Ireland.

Duncan was murdered and Macbeth became the king of Scotland. Macbeth and his wife still could not forget the prophesy of the weird sisters that the children of Banquo, not of Macbeth, would be the kings after him. This thought rankled within them and they decided to kill Banquo and his son Fleance to nullify the prediction. So they arranged a banquet and invited Banquo and his son . Macbeth had appointed some assassins who attacked Macbeth and his son on their way to the banquet. They killed Banquo but Fleance somehow managed to escape.

Macbeth and his wife were pleasantly talking to all the noble men present in the banquet. Macbeth suddenly saw the ghost of Banquo occupying the seat reserved for him. Macbeth was so afraid that he began to address the ghost with distracted words. Lady Macbeth feared that the dreadful secret might come out, so in great hurry she dismissed the banquet excusing the sudden sickness of Macbeth. Since then Macbeth and his wife had their sleep affected with terrible dreams.

Summary of the poem "I Can Not Remember My Mother"

I Cannot Remember My Mother Rabindranath Tagore Summary: A motherless child speaks of how his overall circumstances often remind him of his mother, although he can remember neither his mother's face, nor what his mother looked like. He lost his mother when he was just an infant, yet while playing with his playthings he remembers hearing a tune that his mother used to hum while rocking his cradle. When in autumn morning the smell of shiuli flowers spreads in the air and the scent of the morning service in the temple comes floating, it reminds the child of his mother. Even when he looks up into the distant sky, it seems to him that his mother is staring at his face with her deep adorable eyes.             ***********************************
