SCHOOL PROJECT

Introduction

Many of the plays of Shakespeare are named after the hero of the play e.g. Hamlet, Othello and King Lear. This is true in the case of tragedies. In case of comedies, the title are not drawn from the names of hero or heroine e.g. Twelfth Night, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing etc..

The title 'Merchant of Venice' is an exception. It can apply both to Antonio and Shylock.

In this project, I would try to find out those very traits in Shylock's character that could give him the recognition more as a hero than a mere villain in the play.
