MACBETH, LONG ANSWERS

3. What were the strong reasons against the murder that Macbeth thought? Why did Lady Macbeth accuse Macbeth of cowardice and fickleness?  How did Macbeth attempt to kill Duncan and finally kill him? What did Macbeth hear while coming back to his room after murdering Duncan? What did Lady Macbeth do with the blood stained dagger?

Macbeth thought that there were strong reasons against the murder. Macbeth was not only a subject but also a close relative to Duncan. Besides, he had been a host to the king, so his duty would be to protect the king from the threat of murderers, not to bear the dagger himself. Moreover, Duncan was so greatly loved and honoured by his subjects that his murder would surely stain Macbeth’s high reputation.

Conflicts of Macbeth’s mind were preventing him from executing the murder of Duncan. But Lady Macbeth had no wish to shake it off. She began to persuade Macbeth by pitting forward reasons after reasons why he should not shrink from their resolution. She even accused him of cowardice and fickleness so that he would get motivated to take the dagger and fulfill the resolution he had undertaken.

Macbeth took the dagger in his hand and stealthily approached the room where Duncan was sleeping. As he advanced, he could see another dagger hanging in the air. He tried to grasp it but it faded into the air. It was only a phantasm caused by his hot and oppressed mind. Overcoming his fear, Macbeth entered Duncan’s room and slew the king with one stroke of his dagger.

Macbeth felt that he heard a voice witch said that Macbeth had murdered the innocent sleep, so Macbeth would sleep no more.

Lady Macbeth took the blood stained dagger from Macbeth and went to stain the cheeks of the sleeping grooms with blood. She wanted to make it seem that they were the guilty of the murder.

Summary of the poem Asleep in the Valley Written by Arthur Rimbaud for class twelve/ xii /12, West Bengal board, W.B.H.S.C.

Asleep in the valley Arthur Rimbaud Summary The poem “Asleep in the valley” by Arthur Rimbaud depicts the picture of a young soldier lying blissfully asleep amidst the serenity of a small green valley. A slow stream is flowing through it and leaves long strands of silver on the bright grass. Sun rays come streaming down on the valley from the mountain top. The soldier is lying asleep with his mouth open. He has a pillow made of fern beneath his head and the dense undergrowth as his bed. Soaked with sun rays the pale green bed feels warm. He sleeps with his feet among the flowers and a smile on his face like an infant. His smile is gentle and has no guile in it. The poet asks the nature to keep the young soldier warm because he is afraid that he may catch cold in the open air. His rest should not get disturbed by the humming insects. The young Soldier is asleep at peace in the sunlight with one hand on his breast. But two red holes are seen on one side of his body. They are...
